Compass Acquires Regional Brokerage in $180M Deal, Adding 2,000 Agents

Compass announced today that it has agreed to acquire Southeast Realty Partners, a regional brokerage with roughly 2,000 agents operating across Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee. The deal, valued at approximately $180 million, is expected to close by the end of the second quarter.

The acquisition represents Compass's largest deal since 2022 and signals renewed confidence in the company's growth-through-acquisition strategy. CEO Robert Reffkin said the move will strengthen the company's presence in some of the fastest-growing housing markets in the country.

Southeast Realty Partners generated an estimated $8 billion in sales volume last year, with particular strength in the Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville metro areas. The brokerage is known for its deep community ties and experienced agent roster, qualities that Compass leadership says align well with the company's technology-forward approach.

Industry observers note that the deal comes at a time of significant consolidation in the brokerage space. The ongoing fallout from commission lawsuits and settlement changes has squeezed margins at many mid-sized firms, making them attractive acquisition targets for larger players with more resources.

Not everyone is celebrating the news. Some agents at Southeast Realty Partners have expressed concern about cultural changes and technology transitions that typically follow acquisitions. Compass has pledged to maintain the acquired firm's brand identity for at least 12 months while gradually integrating its platform and tools.

The real estate brokerage landscape continues to evolve rapidly, and this deal is likely just one of several major acquisitions expected in 2026 as the industry adjusts to new commission structures and competitive pressures.
